Ami Blackford - Quest for the Dragon Stone
Thought I would post a little preview about how I created the illustrations in my book. They are an interesting blend of hand-crafted papers, digital photography, traditional illustrations painted in watercolors and colored pencil - and then all elements are collaged in Photoshop.
It is great fun to look around and realize - anything can be used as a medium. I believe it lends a richness to the work. Hope you enjoy!

Wow. Ami. That's so cool. I love how you use real elements like coffee. Your book has such a natural feeling to it and now I know why. I hope more people will share so we can all learn.

Thanks Kevin - I really appreciate that. I had one of my illutration teachers really push us to work dimensionally in my senior year. He really expanded my defintion of illustration. Lots of my recent work can only be photographed because it is so 3-dimensional.
